Cereal Fail

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Breakfast just hasn’t been the same lately. Our favorite cereal (and snack food), Purely O’s, has had a recipe change for the worse. It used to be nearly sugar-free and actually taste like oats (think less sweet and organic version of Cheerios), something I felt good giving Dash and Zella.
Now there is TRIPLE the sugar, plus molasses, and corn in the new Purely O’s recipe. And they didn’t even bother to let their customers know.

There is much discourse in the blogosphere about this very cereal. Lots of angry former customers wondering what a good replacement is for their favorite cereal. What can they give their kids to snack on? What can diabetics and people with corn allergies eat now? Anyone… ideas?

I’m really irritated about it, honestly. I’ve registered our complaint with the company and I’m hoping for the best. Maybe they’ll go back to the old formula. Kind of like how New Coke slowly faded away….

Further Proof That Naps are Good

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

And I don’t mean for me, though that’s not so bad either. Here’s a little something I did during the kid’s naptime yesterday.

blueberry muffin goodness

Blueberry Lemon Muffins from Jessica Seinfeld’s Deceptively Delicious.
Delicious lemony scent with last summer’s blueberries (from the freezer) made these a really nice afternoon treat. Mine came out a bit gummy which might be from the yogurt, though I’m not sure. Never made a gummy muffin before. Nonetheless, delish.

Another Year

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Well what a lovely couple/few days that was! Celebrated my thirty-third birthday (ahem), visited with friends from out of town, and found a place to live for at least the winter. Not too shabby for a three-day weekend.

My favorite girl was there.

So was he.

And this movie star.

But this photo pretty well sums up what’s been happening around here.
best cake ever
This is the best birthday cake I’ve ever had. And while it doesn’t look quite so good (and strangely, quite a bit smaller) in this photo, it is fantastic. And trust me, you want a slice.

And now, back to reality, and a very quick week. Lots to do, lots to pack for a week in Atlanta in just a few days. Sigh. Did you all have a nice weekend?

Dinner and an Update

Monday, July 20th, 2009

You might have guessed that I’m taking a little time off from blogging and you would be entirely correct. Maybe it’s the big move, maybe it’s that it’s finally summer around these parts but I’ve needed to be away from the computer for a while. You understand, right? I mean, aren’t you reading this at the beach?
But don’t fret, I’ll still be checking in every now with little updates such as this:

Neil and I have recently had a Return to Date Night, starring: Dinner and a Movie! This makes us very happy. Here’s us at Miyake (no website but don’t let that stop you from going. it’s good. real good.) just before I dug in to the best sushi I’ve ever had (and an hour or so before we wasted the rest of our night on Bruno).

Side note(s): Ugh. Look at my hair! Need cut. Need color. Need help! Funny to see that Cassie is going through a similar struggle, though she’s at least pointed in the right direction. Go short, Cass! (and then help me find my cut.)

And um, since when did date night call for a polo shirt covered up by a sweatshirt? Sad. So sad.
